CAT continues to operate on a modified schedule and with limited bus capacity throughout the week in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We continue to ask that customers only use our services for essential trips, such as getting to medical appointments, work or grocery stores. This is especially important since CAT buses are operating at only reduced capacity in order to provide passengers more room to spread out and meet social distancing guidelines.

In addition, we require customers to wear masks while riding our buses, using our CAT Mobility services, or riding our ferries in response to a federal mask mandate. Customers who do not comply will be subject to suspension of CAT services. Masks will be provided by bus operators to customers who need one.

To help protect the health of customers and CAT employees, customers are asked to abstain from using CAT services if:

  • They have fever or chills
  • They recently have traveled out of the country
  • They have a new cough or shortness of breath
  • Within the past 14 days, they have been in close physical contact (6 feet or closer for a cumulative total of 15 minutes) with anyone who tested positive for COVID-19
  • They are isolating or quarantining because they may have been exposed to a person with COVID-19
  • They are waiting on results of a COVID-19 test.
  • The trip is not essential

CAT’s paratransit service, CAT Mobility, is continuing to operate, but we request that customers only use the service for essential trips since our staffing levels have decreased due to the pandemic.

CAT also urges customers and employees to follow the below recommendations from the CDC and Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH):

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Use use cloth face coverings or masks when in public

CAT has posted information and distributed communications regarding hand-washing techniques and coronavirus FAQs. Staff has also set up additional hand sanitizing stations for employees and customers. In addition, CAT is taking extra precautionary measures using cleaning materials recommended by the CDC to ensure proper antibacterial content is used for cleaning our facilities and transit vehicles.

CAT protocol regarding COVID-19 exposure

When we are notified that an employee or customer has a confirmed case of COVID-19 the following occurs:

  • Employee is referred for medical treatment and must follow Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Department of Public Health (DPH) guidelines prior to returning to work.
  • Anyone who is potentially exposed is notified according to contact tracing guidelines issued by local health officials.
  • Customers with known cases of COVID are advised to follow current medical guidelines and treatment, and are not permitted to take trips with CAT until they are medically cleared.
  • Customers and employees potentially exposed are notified via contact tracing guidelines issued by medical professionals.
